I think that emotional awareness makes a leader better at engaging with other people. It is important to remember that the power of leaders comes from the people who follow them. It is therefore very difficult to follow someone who lacks emotional awareness. Take for example of a case of an employee who lost either a friend or close family member. The employee might try hard to pretend everything is normal to avoid attracting the attention of the nurse leader. However, it is the responsibility of a nurse to know when of the followers has an emotional problem and try to help them out. That is what makes a leader effective. Therefore, emotional intelligence is crucial in enhancing the relationship between leaders and their followers.
