Discussion: Organizational Change
Each employee within an organization can have unique and varied reactions to change. While some employees relish the opportunity to try new things, change may produce anxiety in others. A leader needs to apply effective strategies for making the change successful.
For this Discussion, you will read a case study and determine the best method for successfully implementing organizational change and overcoming resistance to change.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review the Learning Resources for this week.
Download the Document: Case Study: Crestwood Hospital ER(located in this week’s Learning Resources).
Download the Document: Force Field Analysis Table Template(located in this week’s Learning Resources).
Review the case study and consider:
What is driving the change and what is pushing against it?
Provide some thoughts on how you might alleviate the force against it.
Complete the Force Field Analysis Table Template, describing driving forces and restraining forces to the change in the scenario. Post your completed Force Field Analysis Table Template.
Post a comprehensive response to the following:
Explain which type of resistance might arise among the staff. Explain why you think this.
Explain at least two additional consequences the organization might experience while implementing the change.

Discussion: Organizational Change
Case Study: Crestwood Hospital ER
Crestwood Hospital is in a busy, urban area and receives hundreds of patients to its emergency
room (ER) each day. The wait times are often long for patients, and their satisfaction is
generally low. The administration has concluded that, in order to reduce wait times, patients
who are going to be going to be transitioned out of the ER may be moved to a bed more
efficiently. This will open ER rooms more quickly and lessen the wait time for other ER patients,
thereby increasing their satisfaction and access to care.
In order for this change to take place, some staff and leadership roles and responsibilities need
to shift as well. Patient transport procedures need to be enhanced. The time to transport a
patient from the ER to a hospital room will need to be shortened. Bed cleaning will need to
occur more frequently, efficiently, and promptly. These changes, as well as others, will create
some resistance among staff.
